Weather of Arabia - The full moon of the month of March adorns the sky tonight, and the full moon of the month of March bears the title “Worm Moon”, and it is the first full moon after the spring equinox, representing the end of the winter season. So what is the reason for calling it this name and what will be the semi-shadow of the moon that the Earth will witness today?
What is the reason for giving the worm moon this name?
The full moon is believed to be nicknamed the Worm Moon after earthworms that begin to appear in March, when the soil begins to warm. The full moon is expected to appear in the sky on Monday, March 25. However, it may also appear full on Tuesday night.
A full moon represents a phase of the moon that occurs when the sun, Earth, and moon line up in space, with the Earth in the middle, causing the day side of the moon (the fully illuminated half) to appear directly facing us.
Penumbral eclipse... when and how does it occur?
The Moon is expected to enter the Earth's penumbra, creating an event known as a "penumbral eclipse."
During a penumbral eclipse, also known as a "false eclipse," sky watchers will see a slight dimming of the moon's surface.
Astronomy expert Professor Don Polacco from the University of Warwick said:
“In these cases, the dimming of the Moon is usually very difficult to detect, as part of the Moon is still illuminated by the Sun.”
The semi-shadow area is the area in which part of the sunlight is blocked from the moon, meaning that the observer of the sun from the surface of the moon sees it partially eclipsed, and therefore the moon will remain completely visible during this eclipse.
The eclipse on Monday will be visible from parts of Antarctica, the western half of Africa, western Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Americas, the Pacific Ocean, Japan, and the eastern half of Australia.
