The most prominent tourist cities on the island of Crete, Greece
Weather of Arabia - If there were a beauty contest for the Greek islands, Crete would be one of the favorites. Some even say that there is no place on Earth like Crete, and perhaps this is one of the reasons to visit the island.
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and is located in the Mediterranean Sea, about 260 km long and 60 km wide. It consists of four provinces: Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lassithi.
Heraklion
It is the island's capital and largest city and is famous for the ancient city of Knossos, but it is not the most attractive city, as it was built haphazardly with little planning oversight, and despite the presence of a number of attractive old buildings and churches, the ancient city has largely disappeared.
Agios Nikolaos
The capital of the charming state of Lassithi, once known as a party hotspot in Northern Europe especially for Brits coming in year-round, today it is a quieter, more laid-back town.
Chania
The capital of the province of Chania and its largest city, unlike Heraklion, the ancient city here is still largely preserved, with its location on the side of the port, which is an important port for cruises and ferries, and next to it is an old lighthouse (Pharos) and an old Turkish mosque, and many of the old buildings are from the Venetian era and the Turkish.
Hersonissos
The charming port city in the winter is very popular with tourists in the summer, of course, and while there are many sites for parties and nightlife, this town is quieter and more beautiful and sophisticated than its neighbor, Malia.
financially
Today it has taken over as the party capital of the island, becoming very popular with young travelers, as well as many restaurants catering to all tourist tastes, including Mexican, Indian and British restaurants.
Elounda
Once a small fishing town, it is now a celebrity hotspot for a number of five-star resorts and high-end villas, sleeping on the shores of the Bay of Elounda with the deserted island of Spinalonga, a former Turkish fortress and liberal colony.
Setia
A medium-sized city located at the eastern end of the island, where a number of virgin beaches can be reached, most notably the sandy beach near the port.
