Perennial trees in Saudi Arabia, one of them is more than 500 years old
Arab Weather - Climate Professor Dr. Abdullah Al-Musnad revealed that the sycamore tree is one of the large and long-lived trees in Saudi Arabia, and belongs to the plants endemic to tropical and semi-tropical regions.
Specifications of the ficus tree
Al-Masnad explained through his account on the "X" platform that the sycamore tree is characterized by huge trunks and wide, dense leaves. These trees grow naturally in several countries, including Saudi Arabia, where they are mainly concentrated in the southwestern regions of the country, especially in areas with a relatively humid climate.

Places where the ficus tree is spread
Al-Masnad pointed out that the Sarawat Mountains, especially the regions of Tihama, Asir, and Jazan, are considered the main locations where the ficus trees can be found. These trees are considered perennial, as their ages can reach hundreds of years, and there are reports that some trees have exceeded 500 years.

Characteristics of the ficus tree
Al-Masnad added that the ficus trees can reach heights ranging from 15 to 30 meters, and sometimes more in exceptional cases. The diameter of the tree trunk can also reach several meters, making it one of the largest trees in the region.

Benefits and Challenges
The ficus tree is characterized by its large size and dense leaves that provide a wide shade that protects from the heat of the sun, making it a favorite place to rest on hot days. However, due to the large size of its roots, it may cause damage to sidewalks and nearby facilities, as the roots extend long distances in search of water. Therefore, it is preferable to plant it in large squares, farms and valleys.
