Al Habla Village: A towering wonder in Saudi Arabia
Anwar Al Yafei, owner of the blog “Beyond My Door,” has been able to visit different parts of the world thanks to his passion for exploration and his job that allows him to move. In 2016, Al Yafei, of Middle Eastern origins, visited Saudi Arabia and documented one of the wonders of the Asir region: the Hanging Village of Al Habla. He explained in an interview with CNN Arabic that people assume that the Kingdom is just a desert, but they are shocked when they see pictures of Abha and Al-Habla.
- Natural beauty and ancient history
Al Habla village is characterized by its green mountainous nature. This village is a strange wonder, as a series of houses are located on the edge of a natural cliff. According to the “Spirit of Saudi Arabia” website of the Saudi Tourism Authority, the name of the village was inspired by the story of its construction, as the residents of one of the villages at the bottom of the valley built the village when they arrived there by a rope ladder about 400 years ago.
Until the 1980s, residents worked on small terraced farms, and today the village has a cable car that operates between May and October.

An amazing experience for a young person
Although Al-Yafei's visit to the village was four years ago, its influence is still fresh in his mind. He stressed that the village shows human ingenuity in building seemingly impossible places. “You can't help but be amazed that there's a place that seems like it shouldn't be here, but it is, clinging to the edge,” he added.
When he visited the village, the weather was foggy, and the weather there was a “pleasant change” compared to the heat in the northern regions of the kingdom. The Asir region is characterized by its rainy spring weather in summer, which makes the village of Al-Habla an ideal place to enjoy the views of the mountains, valleys, and green nature.

The importance of tourism diversity in Saudi Arabia
Al Yafei stressed the importance of highlighting sites such as the village of Al Habla, noting that the Kingdom extends across a vast area and embraces a diverse history and cultures. At the end of September 2019, Saudi Arabia announced the start of adopting a new tourist visa that includes 51 countries, in a step aimed at enhancing tourism in the Kingdom.
Al-Yafei hopes that the country will witness a new wave of tourist interest, noting that there is much to explore in Saudi Arabia beyond traditional religious tourism.
