Athba Al Thani, Head of Sustainable Development and Chief Business Officer at QDVC, spoke about how companies in the construction sector can leverage artificial intelligence to reduce resource waste and manage waste more efficiently through data analysis. She also touched on how artificial intelligence can be used to increase the use of renewable energy.

Regarding specialized applications in this field, Al Thani indicated that the “Bard” applications from Google and “GBT Chat” are currently witnessing great interest from companies and institutions. However, she drew attention to the fact that these two applications are not specialized in preparing construction plans, whether for infrastructure projects or to combat climate change. She expressed her optimism that the era of artificial intelligence specialized in these fields is coming, and relying on it will become a basic necessity and not a luxury.

She also explained that fear of change is what drives some organisations, companies and even individuals to resist introducing AI technology into their businesses. Hence the importance of holding these specialized sessions and seminars in the field of introducing this technology in various fields.

On the other hand, Dr. Ghanem Al-Sulaiti, Director of the Government Innovation Department at the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, pointed out the importance of looking at artificial intelligence technology as an assistant to humans in solving climate change problems.

Al-Sulaiti explained that climate change problems are the result of human policies and actions, and that artificial intelligence is capable of providing plans and solutions to combat climate change. However, he stressed that countries are the ones who make the difference by adopting these solutions and being able to change their view and approach to climate and its problems.

Al-Sulaiti stressed that technology could be environmentally friendly in the future, especially if artificial intelligence methods are developed to consume less energy and reduce emissions. He pointed out the need to develop algorithms and manufacture CPU chips more efficiently, which contributes to reducing emissions and the carbon footprint.
