36 flights cancelled in Japan after 'missing scissors'
Arab Weather - 36 flights were canceled and 201 others were delayed at a Japanese airport over the weekend after a pair of scissors went missing from a store near the boarding gates. According to the BBC, the incident occurred on Saturday morning at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, leading to the suspension of security checks at the airport for about two hours.
This caused long lines, as passengers who had already passed security checks were asked to go through them again, leading to significant delays and cancellations. Authorities tried to locate the missing scissors, which were found in the same store the next day.
Japanese airport response to incident
Social media users on the X platform praised the airport’s response to the incident, saying it boosted their confidence in the safety of Japanese aviation. New Chitose Airport is one of Japan’s busiest airports, serving the world’s second-busiest domestic air route between Tokyo and Sapporo, according to aviation analytics firm OAG. In 2022, the airport handled more than 15 million passengers.
