Creating a device that converts a regular table into an interactive touch screen
ArabiaWeather.com - During the "SXSW" conference in Austin, Texas, Sony presented a new innovation that allows converting an ordinary table into an interactive touch surface. This innovation comes within the "R&D" group responsible for creating bold ideas and implementing them through prototypes within the company's "Future Lab" research program.
The new projector device is called "Interactive Tabletop", and its idea is to convert an ordinary table into a touch screen that can draw on it and move things as well as create animations. It contains a motion detector that allows the table to respond to the movement of fingers on it and implement shapes that are used to interact with the table surface.
Although the practical application of this device seems limited, this type of technology includes huge capabilities that can be developed to be used as an educational tool and to convert novels and books into animated interactive lessons.
Sony confirmed that this device is the only model of the "Future Lab" research program, so it is unclear whether the company is considering putting it up as a consumer product.
