Arab Weather - The Greater Amman Municipality, through the Rapid Bus Operations and Public Transport Operations Departments, has begun the second phase of the project to install electronic payment devices, tracking devices, and television surveillance cameras on public transport buses (coasters). This development comes to end the role of the bus "controller" who was tasked with collecting the fare manually.

Implementation of the second phase after the success of the first phase

The current phase includes installing 200 payment and tracking devices on Coaster buses, based on Amman Municipality Council Resolution No. (215) for the current year. The first phase was preceded by installing 150 devices on the company’s integrated buses, which represents a gradual step towards improving public transportation in the capital.

The "Amman Bus" card is used on all smart buses.

According to the Greater Amman Municipality, holders of the “Amman Bus” card can use it to pay on any bus equipped with electronic payment systems, whether it is an Amman Bus, the Rapid Bus, or buses operated by individual and corporate operators, which enhances the ease of movement for users.
The Secretariat aims to benefit from these smart systems to collect accurate data on bus movement and the number of passengers, which will help in better planning services and preparing accurate timetables to improve the efficiency of public transportation.

Successful experience in Aqaba

The Greater Amman Municipality, in cooperation with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, has previously completed equipping public transportation in Aqaba with the same smart systems, which demonstrates the success of these initiatives in developing the transportation sector.
This step comes within the framework of the “Smart City” program, which aims to gradually and thoughtfully generalize smart transportation services to ensure their acceptance and spread among users and operators, with a focus on improving the public transportation experience in the capital.
