Jordan | `Amman Trade`: Postponing the date of implementing the decision to close commercial stores until this date
<p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr">Arab Weather - The Amman Chamber of Commerce announced postponing the implementation of the decision to set closing hours for a number of commercial sectors, which was scheduled to start working on the first of next month, until the first quarter of next year. This decision came after a meeting held on Thursday, attended by the Chamber’s Chairman Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, members of the Board of Directors of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the sectors in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, and heads and representatives of the relevant employers’ unions and associations.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> Al-Hajj Tawfiq explained that the Chamber and the Amman Municipality agreed through the joint committee, headed by the Deputy Mayor of Amman, to postpone the implementation of the decision until new instructions are prepared that go through all legal stages, which will take about two months. The municipality is also seeking to conduct a survey of the capital’s merchants regarding the appropriate closing hours for each sector.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> He pointed out that the Chamber has submitted a new proposal that includes different closing times, based on the wishes of the unions and commercial sectors, with the proposals ranging between 7 and 10 pm, according to the preferences of each sector. Al-Hajj Tawfiq confirmed that there are other sectors that have expressed their desire to join the unified closing system, and these requests will be studied and a field survey and electronic polls will be conducted in the coming period.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> Hajj Tawfiq stressed that the new instructions will be flexible and aim primarily to ensure compliance without imposing fines, as some fear. He confirmed that the draft instructions will be prepared in cooperation between the Secretariat, the Chamber and representatives of the relevant sectors, before being presented to the Legal Committee and the Amman Municipality.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> The statement concluded by praising the cooperation of the Greater Amman Municipality in this regard, as a spirit of partnership prevailed during discussions and meetings in a way that serves the public interest and represents all parties.
