Arab Weather - The Arab Regional Weather Center issued a report stating that a new absolute record maximum temperature for the capital, Amman, was recorded at 43.7 °C.

As Jordan and all regions of the Levant were affected, since the morning of Saturday, 8/12/2023, by an air mass described as "extremely hot" that rushed from the Arabian Peninsula towards the Levant, and was distinguished by the fact that its "flaming" center was unusually close to the Jordanian capital and many From the Jordanian cities, which led to a rise in the daily maximum temperatures, as well as the nightly minimum temperatures, to high and unfamiliar levels, and during the day it was above 40 ° C by several degrees for several days, including some high mountain heights.

This air mass was also accompanied by an unusual subtropical moisture tide, which led to the formation of cumulonimbus thunderstorms, precipitation, and the occurrence of dust storms in several regions of Jordan in an unusual climatic scene in the month of August, which is characterized by the scarcity of rain in it.

A new absolute national record for the maximum temperature was recorded in the Jordanian capital, Amman, specifically in the eastern neighborhoods, by 43.7° C at exactly 1:30 pm on Monday 8/14/2023, thus exceeding the previous record temperature for the same region and recorded twice on August 20, 2010 and July 30, 2000.

It should be noted that a number of other unofficial meteorological stations recorded records for the first time for maximum temperatures when Jordan was affected by this extremely hot air mass, which is officially considered unprecedented.

Thus, Jordan joins the global scene in recording new absolute record temperatures, especially after the World Meteorological Organization declared July 2023 as one of the hottest months in modern history.
