Jordan | Learn about the reasons for the variation in rainfall in the regions of the Kingdom during the effects of weather depressions
Arabia Weather - As the beginning of December approaches, announcing the beginning of the climatic winter season, weather depressions begin to approach the region’s atmosphere, and the chances of rain increase in various regions of the Kingdom, especially as we enter the winter quarter, God willing.
Here we shed light on the reason for the variation in rainfall rates in the Kingdom during the impact of weather depressions, especially since the last air depression that the Kingdom was exposed to on the 17th of this November witnessed a large difference in rainfall in the north of the Kingdom from the rest of the regions, as the area recorded... Ajloun had the highest rainfall, praise be to God, which exceeded 120 mm throughout the period of the depression’s impact, while other areas witnessed much less rain than that.
At the Arab Weather Center, we explain the scientific reason behind the variation in rainfall rates between the regions of the Kingdom during the impact of depressions, as it is known that the depressions that affect the Kingdom form around the perimeter of the island of Cyprus, but their path differs each time, so that they are sometimes accompanied by Winds are westerly, sometimes northwesterly, and sometimes southwesterly.
Therefore, the difference in the position of the air depressions and the path of the air fronts accompanying them determines, God willing, the direction of the clouds accompanying the air depression. Some of them head on a westerly path and some of them head on a southwesterly path. Thus, the benefit becomes to the areas that fall in the path of strong rain clouds and more heavy rain falls from Areas located on the edges of clouds or in the range of weak clouds.
The Kingdom's geography is also characterized by the presence of mountains, valleys, and plains. When depressions affect the weather and the clouds collide with the mountains and rise to the top, they become stronger than they were, and the clouds unload most of their load on the mountains. Therefore, when they affect the lower-altitude areas, they lose a large part of their load and rain falls in proportions. Less than what it rains in the mountains. Also, when the clouds cross over the lower-altitude areas and valley areas, the air movement becomes downward, which weakens the strength of the rain clouds over those areas.
In some cases, the Kingdom is affected by depressions with centers far from the Kingdom or an extension of the depression. In this case, the effect of rain is limited to the northern and central regions, and sometimes the rain is concentrated only in the northern regions.
