About the Tourism Promotion Authority
The Jordan Tourism Board was established in 1998 as an administratively and financially independent body, under a system that aims to undertake and unify the Kingdom’s tourism promotion and marketing operations, and to work on creating demand for the Jordanian tourism product, as tourism promotion has become an urgent necessity in light of the increasing intensity of competition between countries, and the growing economic importance of the tourism sector.
- As part of its marketing plan, the Tourism Promotion Authority designs and implements an integrated international promotion programme whose activities include representation, trade fairs, workshops, road shows, familiarisation visits, production and distribution of media materials, and public relations.
- To emphasize the vital role of tourism, the Authority is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of thirteen members headed by His Excellency the Minister of Tourism, including nine members from the private sector representing hotels, travel agencies operating in Jordan, and tourism transport companies.
- In order to realize the important role played by tourism, it was necessary for the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities to be at the head of the Authority’s Board of Directors, which consists of (13) members. The Board of Directors includes (9) members from the private sector representing the hotel sector, incoming tourism offices, and tourism transport companies.
Oman and the STORMX Experience
The journey began in Amman, where Mohammed bin Ali drove the first weather monitoring vehicle in the Arab world (STORMX) , equipped with the latest technologies to monitor weather conditions and send data directly to the Arabia Weather Center. After that, Mohammed took on the experience of presenting the weather forecast as a weather forecaster, which made him experience the work environment closely at the Arabia Weather Center in Amman.
Salt and its unique heritage
The next day, the team headed to the World Heritage city of Salt, which the Romans called “Saltus,” meaning the land of figs and grapes (the wooded valley).
Salt is located northwest of the capital Amman, and sits on three main mountains: Jabal al-Qalaa, Jabal al-Jad’ah, and Jabal al-Salam. The city reflects a wonderful blend of heritage and modernity, as its traditional character expresses authenticity and Jordanian roots.
In Salt, the team enjoyed a delicious dining experience at Beit Shaker Restaurant in Al-Subaihi area, known for serving delicious Jordanian dishes. Mohammed and his team had a unique adventure playing Bagez (four-wheel drive cars), and they enjoyed eating Mansaf the traditional way, a dish that expresses authentic Jordanian generosity.
Petra, the Siq and the Treasury
On the third day, the team visited Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, where they enjoyed the beauty of the Siq, the narrow passage leading to the Nabataean Treasury carved into the rock. Petra is a symbol of Jordan and a symbol of natural beauty and history.
Wadi Rum, Valley of the Moon
After Petra, the team headed to Wadi Rum, or “the Valley of the Moon” as some call it due to its unique terrain, where they enjoyed a hot air balloon ride over the sand dunes. Wadi Rum is also a popular filming location for many international movies, which adds to its charm as a unique natural location.
Aqaba, diving and fishing
In Aqaba, the team experienced diving in the Red Sea and walking underwater, where they saw the enchanting coral reefs.
The team visited the Beit Al Ward Ladies Association, which was established on August 18, 2021. The association started as an initiative by a group of local women in the Amara garage, where they worked to provide assistance to families by providing medicines and clothes. The association also supported many women and young people with home-based craft and food projects.
One of the most prominent products that the team learned about and that caught Mohammed bin Ali’s attention was the glass boat, an important symbol in Aqaba, made by a young man with special needs, which added a unique touch to the experience.
After the tour, the team had Sayadieh, a traditional seafood dish in Aqaba, made with fresh horse mackerel and prepared by the ladies of Beit Al Ward, adding a special touch to the meal. Mohammed described the experience as “surreal”, as he tasted the distinctive taste of Sayadieh with the sauce prepared with traditional skill, ending his day with one of the best meals he had had on his trip.
End of the journey
The trip concluded with a unique underwater walking experience in Aqaba, where Mohammed bin Ali experienced this unique activity for the first time. The team ended their day in quiet recreational areas on the shores of the Red Sea, amidst a comfortable and beautiful atmosphere.
The “From Sky to Sea” trip was full of adventures and experiences that left an unforgettable impression on the ArabiaWeather team, organized by the Jordan Tourism Board.
