Jordan | A report reveals the cause of the collapse of the Weibdeh building

Weather of Arabia - The defense agents of the three defendants in the case of a building collapse in the Weibdeh area in Jordan discussed one of the experts who submitted an expert report to the Amman Penal Court of Peace, in which he identifies the reasons for the collapse of the building from his experience.

The court held its eighth public session in the case, Sunday, headed by Judge Sharaf Abu Latifa, and the expert engineer stated that parts of the building’s walls were taken and examined before reaching the final report.

And he indicated that he was not sure whether the excavation work carried out by the electrician individually had caused the building to collapse completely, but he was able to distinguish the settlement wall that collapsed first, explaining that the reason for the collapse of the building and its settlement in the ground was due to maintenance work on that day and not because of Previous backlog work, and that the cracks in the building may be due to backlog.

He explained that the experience report took six days to write, which is sufficient time to produce this report, noting that each team member was specialized in specific techniques, and meetings were held and the format of the final report was agreed upon, which was submitted to the court within the case file.

The expert said, in his testimony, that as soon as the center column was removed in the settlement, the entire building collapsed, and this is based on studies, science and experience, and a complete inspection of the building, and a team of engineers performed a scientific simulation of the collapse of the building.

The court had begun listening to the evidence of the Public Prosecution, which is expected to reach 31 evidence, including the testimony of 5 experts who submitted an expert report to determine the reasons for the collapse of the three-storey building, which includes six apartments, in addition to forensic doctors, families of the victims and the injured.

A residential building collapsed in the Weibdeh area on the afternoon of September 13, and it fell on a building next to it.

The Public Prosecution arrested three people in connection with the case, and the court decided to extend their detention until a full month, but it released them in the last session after the expiration of their legal detention period, as the law prohibits the arrest of the defendants in misdemeanours for a period exceeding a full month.

The court holds two sessions a week to consider the case, and has scheduled Sunday and Tuesday to be held, in the presence of the parties concerned.
