Weather of Arabia - The Director of the Meteorological Department at the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Raed Rafid Al Khattab, stated that the Kingdom was affected during the first third of the current month of July by an extension of the high air, as most regions of the Kingdom witnessed normal to relatively hot summer weather, while the rest of the month witnessed the Kingdom being affected by an extension A thermal surface depression accompanied by a hot and dry air mass, where hot weather prevailed in most areas, while it was very hot in the Badia, Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and Aqaba regions.

Al-Khattab stated that the Kingdom witnessed two heat waves during this month, the first was in the period (12-16) July, as the Ghor Al-Safi weather monitoring station recorded the highest maximum temperature in this period, which amounted to 46.2 ° C on 07/13/2023, and a station recorded Amman Civil Airport monitored the highest maximum temperature on the same day, which was 38.6°C.

The second heat wave was in the period (23-29) July, when the Ghor Al-Safi weather monitoring station recorded the highest maximum temperature in this period, and it amounted to 46.7 ° C on 07/25/2023, while the Amman Civil Airport monitoring station recorded the highest maximum temperature on 28 / 07/2023, and it reached 37.5 ° C.

Al-Khattab added that with the Kingdom continuing to be affected by the hot air mass during most days of the current month of July, 81% of the days of this month recorded temperatures that were higher than the general average for the same time of the year by about (3-7) degrees Celsius, as the average maximum temperature reached For the month of July at Amman Civil Airport it was 35.0 °C, an increase of 2.2 °C above the general average, while the average minimum temperature was 22.8 °C, an increase of 1.8 °C above the general average, and the highest maximum temperature recorded at Amman Civil Airport was 38.6 °C. On 07/13/2023, while the lowest minimum temperature was 18.2 °C on 07/07/2023.

At the level of the Kingdom, Al-Khattab explained that the air monitoring station of Ghor Al-Safi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 46.7 ° C on 07/25/2023, while the Shoubak monitoring station recorded the lowest minimum temperature on 01/07/2023, which was 9.6 ° C.

During his statements, Al-Khattab stated that climatic studies in the Meteorological Department indicate that the current month of July 2023 is the third highest in average temperatures in a hundred years, after 2000 and 2017.

Climatic studies also indicate that temperatures during this month did not exceed the records for July in the Jordanian climate record, as climate records indicate that the highest maximum temperature recorded in the Kingdom during July was 49.3°C on 07/25/2018, and in the capital Amman The Amman Civil Airport monitoring station recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43.5 °C on 30/07/2000.

Al-Khattab added that it is worth noting that the average temperature in July 2000 is considered the highest in the summer months during the Jordanian climate record in 100 years, in which the average maximum temperature at the Amman Civil Airport monitoring station was 36.3 °C, an increase from the general average of 3.5 °C, while it reached 3.5 °C. The average minimum temperature is 23.6 °C, with an increase of 2.6 °C over the general average.
