Jordan | A Jordanian doctor warns of a new mutation of the Corona virus in the summer

Weather of Arabia - Consultant in chest diseases and Secretary General of the Arab Association of Chest Physicians, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Al-Tarawneh, revealed the emergence of a new mutation of the Corona virus (Covid-19) that led to a mutant spreading this summer.

Tarawneh explained that doctors around the world have noticed a steady increase in hospital admissions due to Covid-19 over the past three weeks, noting that this was expected as a result of the increase in travel and frequent movement in the summer. He added that every year, tests show an increase in the rate of Covid positives. -19 during the summer and again in the winter, unlike influenza which almost disappears in the summer, making COVID-19 endemic and unavoidable.

A new mutation of the Corona virus in the summer

Al-Tarawneh stated that KP.3.1.1 is one of the new sub-mutants of the original Omicron mutant, as it possesses multiple mutations in the spike protein, including a mutation that helps it escape from antibodies resulting from previous immunity, or after infection with recent variants or immunization.

Dr. Tarawneh added that the escalating rise in infections is likely to continue until the end of the eighth month, but there are measures people can take to avoid contracting the disease.

Tarawneh noted that if you are sick now, you should be tested to find out if you have Covid-19. If the symptoms are mild, this means that the immune system is keeping the virus under control. To prevent transmission of infection to high-risk groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic diseases and weak immunity, the test can be performed at home or a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test in the laboratory. .

He continued: You must isolate yourself until you feel better and after 72 hours have passed without a rise in temperature, and we recommend wearing a mask during the period of infection.

He added that people in high-risk groups may benefit from taking antiviral medications. Tarawneh stressed that Covid-19 will not disappear, and there will continue to be new variants that cause new waves of infection on a seasonal basis.

Tarawneh called on the National Center for Epidemic Control to submit a report on the epidemiological situation in Jordan and issue the necessary health instructions and guidelines.
