Jordan | Important regarding mobile phone chargers
Weather of Arabia - The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority provided advice to Jordanian citizens regarding the use of mobile phone chargers. The authority explained that only 5% of the total charger consumption goes to charging the phone, while the rest is wasted if the charger is left plugged in all the time.
As temperatures rise in Jordan, the need to think about how to rationalize energy consumption increases, as the increasing demand for cooling leads to higher electricity bills and increased pressure on energy networks. In this context, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources issued a guide to conserve and rationalize energy consumption, which includes a set of Simple guidelines for individuals and institutions to reduce consumption:
-
Refrigerators and freezers
- Reduce the number of times you open the refrigerator.
- Cover cooked foods and liquids that release water vapor.
- Do not store food in quantities exceeding the capacity of the refrigerator.
- Set the refrigerator temperature between (3-5) degrees Celsius, and the freezer temperature to (-18) degrees Celsius.
- Do not place the refrigerator near any heat source or expose it to sunlight.
- Conduct regular maintenance of the refrigerator and close the leakage holes.
- Choose the most efficient, least energy consuming refrigerator that carries an energy efficiency label.
- Defrost periodically if the refrigerator does not have an automatic defrosting device.
- Clean the refrigerator condenser (rear grille) twice a year.
- Ensure the validity of the rubber seals around the refrigerator door (inch).
- When taking foods out of the freezer, it is best to thaw them by placing them in the refrigerator a while before using them.
- Arranging things inside the refrigerator to make it easy to quickly insert and remove things.
- Disconnect the power from the refrigerator when leaving the house for a period of more than a week, clean it and leave the door open.

Washers and dryers
- Wash the largest possible amount of clothes in each cycle to avoid frequent runs.
- Spread your laundry out in the sun instead of using an electric dryer.
- Do not load the washing machine more than its designated load and adjust the appropriate amount of water.
- Choose the most efficient washing machine that has an energy efficiency label.
- When using the dryer, it is best to use it continuously to avoid heat loss.
- Do not use the iron intermittently and use its heat continuously.
- Turn off the iron a few minutes before finishing the ironing process.
- Dry wet clothes in the sun before ironing.
-
Energy consumption in the kitchen
- Do not boil water in an open pot and use a closed pot to speed up the boiling.
- Keep the cooker clean to enhance its efficiency.
- Turn off the electric cooker a few minutes before the end of the cooking process to take advantage of the remaining heat.
- Use the appropriate pot for the burner.
- Do not open and close the oven frequently except when necessary.
- Use the heat stored in the oven to reheat foods or bread after use.
- Use pressure cookers whenever possible.
- Ensure that the flame is blue and perform maintenance if it is not.
- Cook all the food at once if possible and avoid the first heating period of the oven exceeding five minutes.

In the summer
- Close windows and doors to prevent hot air from entering.
- Seal holes to prevent hot air from entering by placing gaskets around door and window frames and extractor fans.
- Close the curtains on the windows to prevent sunlight from entering while the cooling device is running.
- Installing heat-reflecting and double-glazed windows to reduce heat transfer.
- Clean the air conditioner filter regularly.
- Turn off the air conditioners when leaving the room or office.
- Set the air conditioner thermostat to 24°C to save energy.
- Choose the appropriate air conditioning device for the space to be cooled.
- Shading the air conditioner from the outside to reduce energy consumption.
- Choose an air conditioner based on its energy efficiency and look for air conditioners that carry an energy label.
