Jordan | Death of a child swept away by flood waters, another rescued in Balqa

Arab Weather - Civil Defense crews in the Balqa Civil Defense Directorate dealt today with an incident in which a girl and a child fell and were dragged by flood waters in Balqa Governorate. Diving teams were able to rescue the girl, while the child was found dead after a search and inspection operation of 7 kilometers.

The media spokesman for the Public Security Directorate stated that the incident occurred while they were both standing near the flood waters that were formed by rainwater in one of the valleys, as they were swept away by the waters, which are usually laden with silt and dirt.

The media spokesman said that the speed of response to the report and arrival at the site had the greatest impact in rescuing the girl, whose condition was described as moderate. She was dealt with by ambulance teams and transferred to the hospital to receive treatment, while rescue teams and diving teams continued to search for the girl who was found dead.

The Public Security Directorate stressed the need to take precautions during periods of atmospheric instability, and not to approach flood channels and valleys, or risk crossing them, stressing the need to adhere to the instructions, given the danger of such sites, and some may try to approach them for the purpose of photography or curiosity.

The Directorate also stressed the need to request assistance as quickly as possible through the unified emergency number (911), and not to risk emotional impulse to save a drowning person without being familiar with the rescue rules, as this may pose a double danger. It prays to God to bestow His mercy and satisfaction upon the deceased girl, and to grant the injured a speedy recovery.
