Man benefited from the tidal phenomena of sea water, by exploiting the speed of the water flow when the tides occurred, so he began working on the completion of hydroelectric stations that generate electrical energy from the movement of water.

Two methods are used to convert the kinetic energy of water into electrical energy. The first is by building dams that contain at the bottom a group of turbines and fans that move with the acceleration of water movement, thus generating electrical energy.

As for the second method, which is used in open water, it relies on building solid towers in which there is a large fan at the bottom of the tower, through which kinetic energy is converted into electricity.

Although countries with broad coastlines can apply these tools to generate electric power by taking advantage of the tides, the real benefit is not achieved if the wave height does not exceed five meters. In addition to this, sea salts may contribute to damage to turbines and fans, and this requires action. its regular maintenance.

The largest tidal power station is the Reims tidal power station in France, which began operating in 1966.
