Announcing the date and strategies of the Ninth World Earth Forum, which will be hosted by Jordan this year

Weather of Arabia - Minister of Agriculture Khaled Al-Hanaifat said that the ninth World Earth Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Jordan from 21-26/5/2022 under the royal patronage, is an important opportunity to communicate with international and local partners in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development 2030 and the national plan for sustainable agriculture. This was during the press conference held today, Saturday, at the Intercontinental Hotel, Amman, in the presence of the European Union Ambassador, Maria Hadjithudou Seo, Raed Ghareeb, Co-Chair of the National Committee of the organization (Seeds Organization in Jordan) and Rabie Morsi Wehbe, the regional coordinator of the International Land Coalition ILC in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Whereas among the Hanifat, the agricultural sector receives great attention from His Majesty the King, specifically in developing the sector and working to solve all obstacles and build everything that contributes to maintaining food stability in the Kingdom to face and address the crises and problems experienced by this sector, especially that the challenges facing sustainable land management Water and, most importantly, land and soil degradation, pose a major threat to food security, livelihood sustainability, the provision of ecosystem services and the conservation of biodiversity in the region.

Al-Hanaifat added that food security in the Arab region suffers from many challenges that necessarily require more than ever to intensify efforts at the regional level and cooperate in order to reach sustainable food security. He pointed out that the food security file receives attention at all national levels. His Majesty the King From the beginning of the pandemic to the importance of working collectively to address the phenomenon of hunger and food insecurity; His Majesty stressed the need to facilitate access to and adoption of modern agricultural techniques, to contribute to improving the quality and availability of food; And the importance of the role played by the agricultural sector, in terms of its ability to enhance the livelihoods of about a quarter of the population, as it is one of the largest sources of employment and employment opportunities for youth and women in rural and Badia regions.

Al-Hanaifat indicated that since the beginning of the pandemic, this sector has proven its presence in the global supply chain, and there is a possibility for it to expand further, with more investment, increased reliance on technology and the provision of easy financing sources.

He added that the Corona pandemic and other crises and disasters caused by climate change showed the urgent need to prepare a comprehensive strategy for the land sector in order to manage the land and its resources, governance, sustainability and preservation. The preparation of this strategy through preparation for the World Earth Forum in partnership with all relevant national institutions is an important opportunity for Jordan to shed light on the issues and challenges facing Jordan in the field of land management and governance, which are consistent with the objectives of the International Land Alliance in achieving land governance and thus encouraging Donors help us implement the strategy and achieve the sustainable development goals.

The strategy also focuses on engaging stakeholders from governmental institutions, civil society and international institutions in achieving land governance based on rights and development for people and people.

Emphasizing the effective role of the government at the national and Arab levels in facing the effects of climate change by involving people with their original production methods in managing natural resources, including water and land, and emphasizing the importance of international cooperation based on development in facing the challenges facing our country in light of successive crises from the Corona pandemic and conflicts Regional and international, and the strategy also achieves rapprochement between the various stakeholders in decision-making circles for the benefit of the Jordanian citizen for a secure future and sustainable development, emphasizing gender justice and supporting women’s rights to participate in the terms of sustainable development.

The Ambassador of the European Union stressed that the forum, which will be held in Jordan in May 2022, aims to start a discussion on sustainable effort and governance of land responsibility for Jordan, the Arab region and the world, and the involvement of youth in global regional initiatives, exchanging ideas, exploring solutions, and building support networks in dealing with global issues, the challenges faced by young people in reaching lands and the protection of their lands around the world, with a special focus on Jordan.

For his part, Ghareeb stressed that the forum is being held for the first time in the Middle East under the patronage of the Royal Highness and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, the International Land Alliance and the Seed Foundation. He will return for 6 days to the Dead Sea and a number of places in Jordan, in addition to a wide participation of civil society, youth and women, and he will discuss during his days many important issues related to the land.
