The last full moon in 2023, the “cold moon,” decorates the sky of the Arab world tonight
Weather of Arabia - The sky of the Arab world today, Tuesday, is characterized by a special beauty with the presence of the full moon, which is the last full moon in the year 2023, as it appears bright throughout the hours of the night.
In this context, the Astronomical Society in Jeddah explained through its official account on the “X” platform that the path of the full moon tonight will follow the path of the June sun, as it will rise from the northeastern horizon coinciding with sunset.
North of the Arctic Circle, the full moon will perform a role similar to the sun at midnight during June, as it remains orbiting the sky. The opposite phenomenon occurs at far southern latitudes, where the full moon remains exactly like the sun in June.
The cold moon, “Full December,” is larger than usual and orange in color
When the moon rises, it appears large near the horizon, and may be orange in color. As it rises into the sky, its size returns to its normal size. It must be understood that this bulge in the size of the Moon is an optical illusion that occurs in the middle of each lunar month.
When the moon rises and approaches the horizon, its color can change to orange. This is due to the effect of the Earth's atmosphere, as the atmosphere scatters the colors of light so that the red color appears greater than the rest of the colors of the spectrum. This effect occurs when light passes through the atmosphere during moonrise.
According to the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, the moon is expected to rise about an hour later in the coming nights each day. After several days, it will only be visible in the dawn and early morning sky. At that time, the Moon will reach its last square phase a week after the full moon phase.
