The blue full moon has nothing to do with the color of the moon, but is merely a name to indicate the recurrence of the full moon in a single synodic month or the third full moon in a season out of four full moons in a single season, and is called the "seasonal blue full moon."

The current August full moon is the third in the current astronomical summer season , that is, from the moment of the summer solstice, which occurred at 11:50 PM on June 20, 2024, to the moment of the autumnal equinox, which will occur at 3:24 PM on September 22, 2024. The next seasonal blue full moon, according to the calculations of the Metonic cycle of the moon, will occur on May 20, 2027. As for the current coincidence of the "supermoon with the blue full moon", it is a semi-rare case, and this astronomical case will be repeated in January 2037, that is, the full moon will be close to perigee and the third in the season.
