Drought threatens more fires in California
ArabiaWeather.com- The drought in the US state of California threatens to ignite more new fires and fuel existing ones as the season reaches its peak, while the currently burning fires have killed at least 6 people and damaged thousands of acres so far.
Lack of rain and dry winds are expected to fuel more fires as the peak fire season begins, according to the AccuWeather Meteorological Center.
And 5,500 firefighters are fighting a fire near the coast of Big Sur, a popular tourist area. Fire department officials said the fire, dubbed the Soberance Fire, had destroyed about 44,000 acres and dozens of homes in the area, according to Reuters.
It is noteworthy that the fire season officially begins in California in May and extends to September.
