Neighbors complain: Self-driving cars honking at each other at night
Arab Weather - Residents of buildings adjacent to a self-driving car park in San Francisco complained about the noise caused by these cars, especially at night, as they honk their horns in an annoying manner towards each other.
Waymo had rented a large space outside an apartment building to park its vehicles, but the noise from the horns prompted complaints from neighbors. According to CBS News, Radu White, who witnessed the noise, said he heard the horns around 4:30 a.m. EST, noting that it would have been funny if it hadn't happened after midnight.
White posted a video on social media showing more than 20 cars in the same parking lot, some honking at each other.

The company explained that the horns are designed to avoid collisions and communicate with the outside world, as if the cars were calling each other. The company confirmed that it had made software updates to solve the problem.
“We introduced a new feature to avoid low-speed collisions by honking if other vehicles approach while you’re backing up,” the company told CBS News. “We didn’t anticipate this happening so often in our parking lots,” it added, noting that it has updated the software behind the horn to reduce the noise and impact on neighbors.
