What is the equality of night and day?
Equinox is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs twice a year, in spring and fall, when the length of day and night are equal all over the world.
This phenomenon occurs as a result of the sun being directly above the equator, which results in an equal distribution of light in the northern and southern hemispheres of the Earth.
- In the Northern Hemisphere, equal day and night usually occur at the vernal equinox (around March 20) and autumnal equinox (around September 23).
- In the Southern Hemisphere, the same equinox occurs on opposite dates.
The importance of the equality of night and day
- Moderate weather: This phenomenon contributes to the change of seasons as the transition from summer to autumn or from winter to spring begins.
- Farming: Some farmers rely on this period to grow certain crops.
- Astronomical Guide: This event is considered one of the most important astronomical landmarks that humans have used since ancient times to determine calendars and time.
