Polar winds are deepening for the first time in the region, accompanied by very cold weather and heavy snow concentrated on mountain peaks.
Arab Weather - Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Regional Center reported that the latest computer data indicates the rush of a polar air mass of very cold origin towards eastern Europe, specifically towards Turkey and the surrounding areas. This mass is the first of its kind this year before the official onset of winter, causing a significant drop in temperatures with heavy rain and heavy snowfall on high mountainous elevations.
Temperatures drop to nearly 10 degrees below zero in Türkiye:
Turkey is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures due to the influence of the cold air mass, with nighttime temperatures expected to drop below zero in the highlands. Temperatures are expected to range between 2 and -5 degrees Celsius in many areas (while only reaching 2 degrees in Ankara), while temperatures in the northeastern highlands will range between -8 and -12 degrees Celsius below zero, values that have not been recorded for several months, and are the first since last spring.
Heavy snowfall and accumulation of large thicknesses:
Heavy snowfall is falling in Turkey, especially in the highlands of Trabzon and Rize, and heavy snowfall also includes cities such as Igdir and Erzurum. Heavy snowfall is expected to accumulate, disrupting daily life and leading to the formation of frost and difficulty in movement due to the accumulation of snow and ice.
Snow on the highlands of Syria and Lebanon extends to include the peaks of Iraq:
Snow continues to fall intermittently on the mountains of Syria and Lebanon amidst winter weather, with noticeable accumulations on the high mountain peaks. This situation also extends to the mountains of Iraq, especially in the border areas with Syria and Iran, where heavy snow falls on the highlands, especially in northern Iraq and the Zagros Mountains.
Very cold weather in the rest of the regions:
Despite snowfall on mountain peaks in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, the polar air mass is imposing its control over the rest of the Levant and Iraq, causing an extremely cold wave accompanied by a significant drop in temperatures to near zero degrees Celsius, especially at night. There is also a chance of rain on the Syrian and Lebanese coasts and parts of Palestine and Jordan on Monday.
And God knows best.
