Supporting Saudi leadership
The Kingdom's candidacy to host the 2034 World Cup comes as a result of the great interest and support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. This nomination reflects the ongoing efforts to achieve the sporting goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the aspirations and hopes of the Saudi people.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, said: “I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to our wise leadership that enabled us to reach this important stage in the history of Saudi sports. I also thank the Crown Prince for his generous support and continuous follow-up of the sports sector. The Kingdom’s candidacy file to host the 2034 World Cup embodies the comprehensive vision towards a bright future, as the Kingdom intends to organize the most important event in the world of football, thus confirming its great and influential position in the world.”
He added: “The presence of the two children represents an embodiment of the role of ambitious Saudi youth and distinguished talents that contribute to achieving the Kingdom’s goals in the future. Their presence reflects the dreams and great ambitions of young people to participate in the World Cup on the soil of the Kingdom, or to contribute to its organization, or to support the Kingdom’s efforts to welcome the world.”
The President of the Saudi Football Federation, Yasser Al-Mashal, confirmed that the file reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to organizing the major tournament and raising the level of the sports sector. He explained that football is an essential part of Saudi culture and the Saudi people love it. He added: “We are confident in our ability to harness this passion to organize an exceptional edition of the World Cup in 2034, and build a football legacy for future generations.”
The selection of the two children in the official delegation reflects the passion of the Saudi people for football and their aspirations to host a world championship. Submitting the nomination file to FIFA is the third stage within the official nomination stages. The Kingdom had announced its intention to run in October 2023 as the only country in the race, and a special identity for the candidacy was launched. The next stage will include inspection visits from FIFA and an evaluation of the file before the official announcement of the host country in December 2024.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz gave the green light to complete the nomination file after fulfilling all conditions and details.
