Saudi Arabia declares itself free of monkeypox
Arab Weather - The Saudi Public Health Authority "Weqaya" announced, on Saturday, that no cases of "monkeypox - type 1" have been detected in the Kingdom so far, following the World Health Organization's declaration of a global health emergency due to the outbreak of type 1 of the virus.
In its statement, Weqaya stressed that the health system in the Kingdom is strong and effective, making it capable of confronting various health risks.

Comprehensive preventive measures
The authority explained that the Kingdom has taken all necessary preventive measures and procedures to enhance monitoring and limit the spread of the virus, in order to ensure the health and safety of citizens and residents.

Proactive plans and awareness
"Weqaya" added that it has implemented many preventive measures, awareness plans, epidemiological investigations, and responses to infectious diseases with an epidemic dimension, to ensure that any potential spread of infectious diseases is addressed.

Call to verify official sources
The Authority also stressed the importance of obtaining information from official sources and not being led by rumours and unreliable sources, stressing the need to follow healthy behaviours and avoid travelling to countries that have witnessed an outbreak of the "monkeypox" virus.

Global situation: health emergency
The World Health Organization declared, on Wednesday, the outbreak of "monkeypox" in the Congo and other places in Africa as a global health emergency, with infections confirmed among children and adults in more than a dozen countries, and the spread of a new strain of the virus.
The African Union health agency revealed on Saturday that a total of 18,737 probable or confirmed cases of monkeypox have been recorded in Africa since the beginning of the year, including 1,200 cases in one week. According to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3,101 confirmed cases, 15,636 probable cases and 541 deaths have been reported in 12 countries on the continent.
