Saudi Arabia | Jeddah Astronomy: Day and night are equal in Mecca today
Arab Weather - Today, Mecca witnesses equal length of night and day, as each is 12 hours, with sunrise at 6:11 AM and sunset at 6:11 PM local time.
The head of the Jeddah Astronomical Society, Eng. Majed Abu Zahra, explained that the reason for the equal night and day in Mecca a week after the autumnal equinox is due to several factors, including the tilt of the Earth’s axis at an angle of approximately 23.5 degrees. This tilt is responsible for the seasons and the change in day length throughout the year. On the day of the autumnal equinox, the Earth’s axis is neither tilted toward nor away from the sun, resulting in almost equal night and day in most parts of the world.
Abu Zahra pointed out that the difference in latitude, longitude and time zone may cause slight differences in the timing of equal day and night between the cities of the Kingdom, but these differences do not significantly affect the phenomenon itself.
