The working hours of schools during the days of Ramadan differ from the other days, so the working period becomes shorter, and this is within the framework of the Saudi government’s keenness on students and workers in this sector from getting exhausted and tired during the hours of fasting, and we will clarify here the scheduled working hours and the study system in Saudi schools during the month of Ramadan 1444/2023 .
School hours in Saudi Arabia during the month of Ramadan 1444/2023
School hours in Ramadan have been determined by the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, so that it begins on Sunday morning, corresponding to March 20 of the year 2023 AD, corresponding to Sha’ban 17 of the year 1444 AH.
The study period and study hours vary according to each school stage, so that the study period for the kindergarten and primary stages during the days of Ramadan is only 3 hours, while the middle and secondary stages will have 4 hours of study per day during Ramadan.
The education departments in the Kingdom have set the time for the start of the study in attendance during the month of Ramadan, which is as follows:
- Jeddah: 9 am
- Medina: 9:45 am
- Riyadh: 10 am
- Eastern: 9 am
- Qassim: 10 am
- Hail: 10 am
- Al Jawf: 10 am
- Al-Zulfi: 9:45 am
- Al-Namas: 9 am

Two extended vacations in the third semester 1444
On Sunday, Shaaban 20, 1444 AH, corresponding to March 12, 2023 AD, the third semester of the current academic year began in general education schools in its three stages for boys and girls in the regions and governorates of the Kingdom, which is the last semester for this year, as it ends on Thursday, June 22, 2023 AD corresponding to the 4th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the year 1444 AH.
This current academic year is the second year in a row in which the Ministry of Education applies the three-semester system, after approving the new system starting from the last academic year to replace the two-semester system, which was in force in the education system during the past years.
The calendar for the third semester includes two extended holidays, namely:
- Eid Al-Fitr vacation, which begins at the end of working hours on Thursday, corresponding to the 22nd of next Ramadan, and continues until the fourth of Shawwal.
- The second extended leave begins at the end of working hours on Thursday, corresponding to the fifth of Dhu al-Qi`dah, and includes Friday and Saturday (the usual weekly holiday), in addition to Sunday and Monday.
