Saudi Arabia | Makkah Al-Mukarramah.. Opening the gates of Wadi Qanuna Dam to drain 5 million cubic metres
Weather of Arabia - The General Organization for Irrigation in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, opened the gates of Wadi Qanuna Dam yesterday to drain an amount of 5 million cubic meters, at a discharge rate of 4 cubic meters per second, for a period of 15 days. This discharge aims to meet the needs of farmers and increase the water level in the wells located below the dam, in coordination with the competent authorities.
Engineer Hamoud bin Muhammad Al-Subaie, the designated team leader of the General Irrigation Corporation in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, explained that the dam has a storage capacity of 79.2 million cubic metres, with a height of 70 metres, a spillway width of 134 metres, and a length of 326 metres. He also pointed out that the Wadi Qanuna Dam serves the residents of Khamis Harb Center and its villages, Sabt Al-Jara and its villages, and one of Bani Zaid and its affiliated villages, and contributes to protecting many centers and villages of Al-Qunfudhah Governorate from potential flood dangers.
Guidance for citizens and farmers
Engineer Al-Subaie called on citizens to stay away from the valley’s course and not to erect obstacles in its course. He also asked farmers to prepare their lands to benefit from irrigation water, and to adhere to safety instructions issued by official authorities in such cases.
