China...a laser to prevent drivers from falling asleep

Social media users shared video clips , which were filmed on the Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway in northern China. The footage, taken by drivers, shows bright, multi-colored laser lights emerging from an overhead sign as cars travel on the highway.

These bright laser lights filled the sky with red, purple, blue and green, with no direct impact on vehicles, and drivers reported that this feature was intended to attract drivers' attention and prevent them from dozing off behind the wheel.

The video, taken on the Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway, shows various laser lights hovering above vehicles. These laser lights are designed to fight fatigue and quickly rejuvenate drivers, reducing fatigue during long-term driving at night.

Laser lights to keep drivers alert on highways

The video showing the so-called safety feature was posted on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter). The video shows laser devices installed on traffic light bridges over the Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway in China, emitting multi-colored laser lights between red, blue and green in a repeated cycle. These lights are directed towards the sky, not towards vehicles, and aim to prevent fatigue and rejuvenate drivers during long nights.

Mr. Lee, who operates the camera, explained that these laser lights are designed to combat fatigue, as they help drivers quickly re-energize and reduce fatigue during long periods of driving at night.

These initiatives embody the efforts made at the highway level to keep drivers alert, and this is not limited to China only, as the 90-mile highway in Australia features very funny signs on its sides to trigger drivers’ thoughts.
