The "Red List" of endangered birds is reviewed and compiled every four years by BirdLife International, a charity concerned with preserving birds around the world.

The report indicated that long-term drought and climate change have put additional pressures on natural habitat resources (an ecological or environmental area in which certain types of animals or plants live), especially those on which threatened species depend. This coincided with the increasing and intensive destruction of those habitats with the impact of Negative climate change, which increases the risk of local extinction.

Despite the continuing decline in bird numbers in the world, those concerned with preserving them are still optimistic about the possibility of saving many endangered bird species.

Here, measures must be taken on a large scale in order to mitigate the phenomenon of climate change, such as reducing carbon emissions, limiting the rate of global temperature rise, in addition to changing the values of human society and the lifestyles in which we live.

Also, the rapid changes that occurred in the environments had a significant impact on the decline of bird species in quantity and quality at the present time.

In the Arab East, the numbers of migratory and resident birds decreased, as it is noted that the numbers of birds in the Arab East have decreased significantly since 1990.

The tail is black and the edges of its feathers are white, the chin is scarlet and the rest of the lower parts are white, but there is a brown or faint henna tinge in the chest and flanks. For the male, it is like the female, but its color is more vivid.

The goldfinch is a familiar and widespread bird in the countries of the Arab East, the Fertile Crescent, and the Levant, where it was found in gardens, orchards, and wooded areas.

The goldfinch feeds on insects and seeds, and builds its nests from grass, in which the female lays between 5-6 eggs and incubates them for 11-13 days.

Among the reasons and factors that threaten the existence of goldfinch:

- Harsh weather during the years of drought, which has become a recurring phenomenon during the last ten years.

- Direct destruction of water bodies, dryness of springs, shortage and scarcity of surface water, wells, ponds and streams.

- Shrinking natural forests that provide shelter, food, indiscriminate hunting, pesticides and industrial pollutants.

- Uncontrolled human activity has brought about radical changes in the shape of natural habitats through urban expansion and economic and social projects; Which led to the rapid decline in its numbers as a result of the destruction of its natural habitat and the great shortage of food and nesting places.

As a result of these factors and influences, many species of birds have become extinct or have been exposed to extinction.

In sum, the rise in temperatures will cause major and significant changes to the environment in which animals and plants alike live. This may contribute to an increase in the risk of extinction of some species and the deterioration of biodiversity in all parts of the globe.

Therefore, work must be done to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in addition to preventing the hunting of wild birds, working to tighten penalties for violators, and working to propagate endangered species through the "captive breeding" program.
