Arab Weather - Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the latest outputs from the so-called computer simulation show that Iraq is increasingly affected by the cold wave starting Tuesday evening, as its effect extends to the central regions and the capital, Baghdad, causing a rapid drop in temperatures and turning the atmosphere into a remarkably cold one with the appearance of large amounts of clouds.

Cold weather in the north and west of the country and a rapid drop in temperatures in the central regions during the evening hours

In detail, the northern and western regions of Iraq continue to be affected by the cold wave, as the weather is cold in those regions and very cold above the high mountain peaks, with temperatures not exceeding 11 degrees Celsius during the day, with the appearance of large amounts of clouds at different altitudes, so that the weather is cloudy with scattered showers of rain falling at intervals.

In the central regions, including the capital Baghdad, in addition to the southern and eastern regions, the impact of the cold wave remains somewhat distant, as pleasant autumn weather prevails with temperatures in the twenties (reaching 21 degrees Celsius in Baghdad) during the day, and thunderclouds continue to multiply over parts of the southern and eastern regions. On Wednesday, the Siberian air mass will dominate Iraq, accompanied by cold and dry northwesterly winds, so that temperatures will drop significantly compared to Tuesday, recording around 15 degrees Celsius in the capital, Baghdad. The weather will be generally cold, but sunny due to the decline in cloud cover in most areas, except for the northern peaks, where there is still a chance of snow showers over the mountain peaks in the border areas adjacent to Turkish and Iranian lands, and the winds will be moderate in speed.

Siberian cold with Wednesday/Thursday night hours and winter-like atmosphere

During the hours of Wednesday/Thursday night, the influence of the Siberian winds deepens further towards Iraq, leading to an additional drop in temperatures to become similar to those of winter, as temperatures approach zero degrees Celsius in the western and northern regions, while they touch 5 degrees Celsius in the capital, Baghdad, amidst very cold winter weather that requires the use of heating methods.

With the decrease in cloud cover, coinciding with the decrease in wind speed and the increase in humidity levels, the weather conditions are suitable for the formation of frost in many large areas of Iraq, especially the northern and western regions, while the formation of frost in places where water pools are located is not ruled out.

Siberian cold wave to continue on Thursday

On Thursday, temperatures will remain 4-5 degrees Celsius below their average for this time of year, and the weather will be very cold in the morning and cold during the rest of the day, including the capital Baghdad, and will turn very cold during the late night hours, dawn and early morning, especially in the northern and western regions. Frost is likely to form and frost will occur in parts of these regions, especially those that have been exposed to rain.
