Iraq | A new state of atmospheric instability accompanied by thunderstorms calls for attention to the dangers of floods
Arab Weather - Weather maps at the Arab Weather Regional Center indicate that western and northern Iraq will be affected by a moderate to strong state of atmospheric instability on Sunday/Monday evening and night, resulting from the convergence of a cold air mass in the upper layers of the atmosphere, with a surface extension of a thermal depression. This convergence leads to the proliferation of thunderstorm clouds and the fall of thunderstorms in several areas.
The expected weather conditions are severe and require attention to the risks of flash floods.
In detail, a state of atmospheric instability will arise during the evening hours of Sunday, as clouds gradually multiply at different heights during the evening and night hours, and God willing, showers of rain will fall on scattered areas of western Iraq extending towards the northern regions, and the rain will sometimes be heavy in some geographical areas accompanied by showers of hail with the occurrence of thunderstorms, which may lead to a rise in the water level in some areas and the occurrence of water pools.
Atmospheric instability to intensify in Iraq on Monday
According to the weather maps at the Arab Weather Regional Center, the low pressure system is expected to deepen in the upper atmosphere on Monday, and with it the unstable weather conditions will intensify in several areas, concentrated in northern Iraq (with some thunderclouds extending to the central regions, including the capital, Baghdad), where, God willing, showers of rain will fall, and the rain will be heavy at times and accompanied by heavy showers of hail with the occurrence of strong thunderstorms and activity in the speed of surface winds, and at that time there is fear of the risk of floods and rising water levels in some areas, and it is also warned of the flow of valleys and ravines as a result of the heavy rains on some northern mountainous heights, especially the northeastern ones, including Sulaymaniyah and its surroundings.
On Monday/Tuesday night, the impact of the unstable weather will gradually recede from most of the affected areas, but there is still a chance for showers of rain in scattered and limited areas.
Important recommendations from Arab Weather during unstable weather conditions:
Stay away from valleys and torrents due to the high risk of their flow.
Beware of the risks of rising water levels, water pools and traffic jams.
Take shelter indoors during thunderstorms.
And God knows best.
