The second moon in the summer of 2024.. The deer moon decorates the sky of the Arab world
Weather of Arabia - It is observed in the skies of the Arab world today, Sunday, July 21, 2024. The moon is in the full moon phase, where it will be visible throughout the night, as Dr. Ashraf Tadros, professor of astronomy at the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research in Egypt, said that the full moon of the month of Muharram will rise today immediately after sunset, It remains in the sky throughout the night until it sets with sunrise the next morning.
Tadros explained, in a press statement, that the naked eye cannot distinguish the true fullness of the lunar disk, so the moon appears to us as if it were a full moon during the period from July 19 to 22.

The Moon will appear from the southeastern horizon at sunset, and its apparent size will appear large when it is close to the horizon with its reddish-orange color, and its path in the night sky will be similar to the path of the January sun across the daytime sky, so the Moon will not be observed in the far northern regions of the Earth at all. Because the full moon in July is so far south of the sky that it cannot be seen from northern latitudes.
The moon will reach its highest point in the sky at midnight, tilting toward the south, and will set at the southwest horizon with sunrise on Sunday.
In general, it can be said that the moon is full throughout the night, but scientifically it is called the full moon at the moment when it is 180 degrees opposite the sun, and this will happen on Sunday, July 21 at 01:17 pm Mecca time (10:17 am GMT). It will have completed half its orbit around the Earth during the month.
This is an ideal time to see radioactive craters on the surface of the moon through binoculars or a small telescope, unlike the rest of the terrain, which appears flat as a result of the entire moon being in sunlight. These radioactive craters are deposits of bright reflective materials extending from the center of the craters outward for hundreds of kilometers, and it is believed that they are It is newly formed and the Tycho crater is considered the most radioactive crater.
During the coming nights, the moon will rise about an hour later each day, and after a few days it will only be visible in the dawn and early morning sky, and at that time it will reach the final square phase a week after the full moon phase.
Why is the July moon called the deer moon?
He noted that this full moon is known to American tribes as the Buck Moon, where “buck” refers to young male deer that grow new antlers at the beginning of July each year. It is also called the "Thunder Moon" and the "Straw Moon."
He stressed that the time of the full moon is the best time to see the terrain, volcanic craters, and meteor craters on the surface of the moon using large glasses and small telescopes.
