Al-Musnad: Why is July the hottest month in Saudi Arabia?
Weather of Arabia - Dr. Abdullah Al-Misnad, former professor of climate at Qassim University and founder and head of the committee for naming distinctive climate conditions in Saudi Arabia “Nomenclature” said:
There are five reasons why July is the hottest month in Saudi Arabia, and these reasons are related to geographical and climatic factors.
Reasons behind July being the hottest month in Saudi Arabia
In detail, Al-Musnad explained that the peak of summer occurs in July, when the sun is at its highest height in the sky, which increases the intensity of solar radiation and directly affects temperatures.
He also pointed to the longer days in July, when daylight hours are long, which leads to a longer period of heating of the Earth's surface and thus higher temperatures.
He also talked about the effect of low humidity, where the air is dry due to the scarcity of rain in the summer, which increases the speed of heating of the air and thus raises temperatures.
Al-Misnad explained that the continued rise in temperature since previous months, especially during June, leads to an intensification of the cumulative effect of heat in July, making it the hottest month.
He concluded by saying: “There is no heat until after departure,” pointing out that the intensity of the heat occurs after the sun departs from its perpendicular to the Tropic of Cancer on June 21, and this enhances the rise in temperatures during July.
With these combined factors, it appears that July is the hottest month in Saudi Arabia compared to June and August.
