The famous Jordanian mansaf...and the most important habits that must be followed or avoided when eating it
Weather of Arabia - The famous Mansaf dish is a tradition that combines food and authentic Jordanian hospitality, where the traditional Mansaf dish is served with Arabic rice, lamb and milky liquid, which is known locally as "Jameed".
Mansaf is considered a pride for the Jordanian people, as it usually symbolizes joyful occasions, and it is also offered in mourning, to be a symbol of solidarity and synergy in difficult times.
Mansaf is usually served in one communal dish and eaten by forming balls of meat and rice in the right hand, and tossed into the mouth to combine the taste of the delicious ingredients together, and there are some manners that have been inherited by generations to preserve the distinction of this delicious dish in line with the generosity of Jordanian hospitality.
The following are the most important 20 points that you should pay attention to when eating mansaf:
1- It is not permissible to get up to the meal before the owner of the provision gives permission and praises the attendees by saying, “Success (please) on the one who is well off.”
2- The hand must be washed before eating, as it is a Sunnah from our Holy Prophet, upon him be the best prayers and peace be upon him, and upon his pure family.
3- Not to approach food before older men.
4- That we do not take from the meat except what follows the place where we sit, and it is not permissible to extend the hand in front of the one sitting next to you at the table (Sidr al-Mansaf).
5- That we do not extend the hand to the head sitting on the throne of Mansaf unless the eldest of those seated in age or ability says, honor your elders, meaning that he allows us the head, provided that the first cut of the head is presented to him, whether the tongue or the corpse (the flesh on the palate), or if The bachelor pointed out this, as it is customary to leave the head to the bachelors, and it is a shame to eat from the head and not distribute it to the attendees.
6- If someone honors us and places meat or food in front of us, we either eat it or we eat around it, and we do not return it to its owner.
7- It is a shame to blow on the morsel even if it is very hot.
8- It is not permissible to wipe the hand with the side of the lotus leaf, or to shake the hand over the mansaf, or to return something that was left in the hand of food to the lotus tree, as this is shameful for the bachelor and the guests.
.
9- You must use one hand to eat, and if you find it difficult to cut the meat, one of the attendants can help you by extending his hand to you to cut it.
.
10- It is preferable, if you are invited, to hurry and not rush to eat, to make the bite medium, and not to fill the mouth with food.
11- Eat the whole piece of meat that belongs to you, and do not try to mess with more than one piece at the same time, and mix rice and milk with it.
12- If you saw that your neighbor or one of those on the mansaf was wronged, that is, that the piece of meat in front of him was small, or there were many bones and veins in it, and he gave you a large amount of meat, then you must cut and offer what you see fit of the meat to him, and the same is the case if this is a stranger or a small guest age and shyness.
13- Ask for what you need of water or milk from the single person politely, and do not take what is in someone else’s fold except in an emergency.
14- It is not permissible to request anything (other than the right of the guest) regarding food from the bachelors, except for what they carry and distribute.
15- If you are the eldest of those sitting in the mansaf or the closest of people to the bachelor, do not stop eating if you feel that there is a stranger still eating.
16- A number commensurate with the number of attendees gathers around the mansaf.
17- If you are on Mansaf and there are others, then the closest to the one who is single is the one who is present.
18- It is not permissible to serve unripe meat, or it is inclined to blackness or redness, as this is evidence of the miserliness of the bachelor or the ignorance of the cook.
19- The guest has the right to leave the food and shake his hand from it if he finds it without salt.
20- It is not permissible to discredit food or disparage it in any way, and it must be mentioned only as good.
