Yemen declares `Huswain` a disaster area due to Cyclone Tej
Weather of Arabia - On Monday evening, the authorities of Al-Mahra Governorate in eastern Yemen declared the Haswain District a “disaster area” as a result of the repercussions of Hurricane Tig that struck the region. This area is located within Al-Mahra Governorate, specifically in the capital, Al-Ghaydah, overlooking the coast of the Arabian Sea.
According to local sources, the effects of Cyclone Tej reached its peak in the governorate, as heavy rains and strong wind gusts fell, leading to high sea waves in the region.
Following the effects of Tropical Storm Tig, areas in Al-Ghaydah and Haswain in Al-Mahra Governorate were subjected to interruptions in electricity and communications services. Residents were also evacuated in multiple areas in Al Ghaydah due to the weather effects
The Yemeni Red Crescent, Al-Mahra Branch, appealed to the presidency, the Yemeni government, and the Arab coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to send planes to rescue the people stranded in Al-Mahra in general.
The Red Crescent said in a statement yesterday, Monday, that its emergency teams and vehicles are currently unable to reach those affected by the hurricane, especially in Al-Ghaydah.
The statement confirmed that the Red Crescent teams and vehicles have become helpless in the face of the heavy rains and large floods that are now occurring in most streets, in addition to the strong winds.
The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons' Camps in Al-Mahra Governorate announced that 1,031 families, including 7,217 individuals, had been displaced so far as a result of Cyclone Tej.
