Today is the end of summer.. Tomorrow autumn begins and the length of night and day is equal
Arab Weather - The Vice President of the Saudi Weather and Climate Society, Dr. Abdullah Al-Misnad, explained that today is the last day of summer, and tomorrow, September 22, the fall season begins.
Al-Musnad explained that climatologists divide the four seasons so that autumn begins on September 1, while according to the calculations of the ascendants and stars it begins on September 6. However, based on the apparent movement of the sun and its perpendicularity to the equator, autumn begins on September 22, which is the most common date.
Night and day are equal
Al-Masnad added that on September 22, the length of the night and day is almost equal all over the world, noting that the autumnal equinox is the second equinox in the Gregorian year after the spring equinox that occurred on March 21.
Al-Musnad explained that during this period the length of the night increases by about one minute and 25 seconds daily, and that today’s day is longer than the day on December 21 (the winter solstice) by about an hour and a half, and shorter than the day on June 21 (the summer solstice) by an hour and a half.
He pointed out that the spring and autumn equinoxes represent the point of intersection of the ecliptic circle with the celestial equator, as the equinox occurs when the sun is perpendicular to the equator, which leads to the equality of night and day.
