The third edition of the forum
The latest achievement of the Saudi Green Initiative is its announcement of the launch of the third edition of the Initiative Forum, a step that confirms the Kingdom’s commitment and its continuing efforts to support the global climate action agenda. This edition was organized on December 4, and this step comes in the context of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. (COP 28) on the grounds of Expo City Dubai, as it reflects the Kingdom’s commitment and continuous efforts in confronting environmental challenges.
This edition came to complement the achievements of the first edition in 2021, as the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving zero neutrality by the year 2060 was revealed, and the third edition seeks to build on the successes of the second edition that was held in Egypt with the COP 27 conference, which witnessed the launch of important projects in the field of Climate action.
The Saudi Green Initiative Forum brought together an elite group of influential international figures, opinion leaders, and climate experts around the world, with the aim of exchanging ideas and visions and discussing the best ways to confront climate challenges efficiently. This forum provided an important platform to support and enhance global efforts to confront climate challenges, as the Saudi Green Initiative, which was launched by Crown Prince The Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz , reflects the Kingdom’s continued commitment to addressing environmental challenges, and includes major efforts such as:
- Planting 10 billion trees across the country in the coming decades.
- Protecting 30% of the total area of land and marine areas in the Kingdom by 2030
- Reducing carbon emissions by 278 million tons annually by 2030.
Arab and international achievements of the Saudi Green Initiative
The Ministry of Energy announced remarkable progress for the Kingdom on the global stage, as it advanced its global rank in the Green Future Index by 10 places , and occupied first place in the Arab list, in addition to that it ranked twentieth globally in the emissions reduction index, and not only that, but it was able The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia achieves first place globally in increasing renewable energy production.
Modern projects transforming the future of energy
Within a short period of the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz , the Kingdom witnessed the launch of a group of pioneering projects in the field of energy, and these projects include:
- Launching 17 new renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 13.76 GW, which are expected to contribute to the removal of approximately 23.1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
- Launching the world's largest clean hydrogen production complex , which is expected to reach a production capacity of 250,000 tons per year by 2026.
- To contribute to environmental conservation efforts, the first phase of the largest regional center for capturing, transporting and storing carbon dioxide was also launched in Jubail Industrial City. This project has a capacity of up to 9 million tons annually by 2027, and is expected to reach a maximum of 44 million. tons annually by 2035.
