Video | Volcano in Iceland erupts for the seventh time in a year
<p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr">Arab Weather - A volcano erupted on the Reykjanes Peninsula, southwest of Iceland, on the night of Wednesday-Thursday. This is the seventh volcanic eruption the country has witnessed since last December, according to what was announced by the Icelandic Meteorological Service.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> The Icelandic Meteorological Office said in a statement that the eruption began at 23:14 GMT on Wednesday in the Sundnukagigar area near Stora Skovil. The meteorological office said this is the seventh eruption in the area in one year, following a series of volcanic eruptions in recent months.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"></p><h2 style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> Views of the volcano in Iceland</h2><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> Live television footage showed lava flowing along a horizontal fissure in the area, drawing attention to the intensity of the volcanic activity. In response to a question from public broadcaster RAS2, Benedikt Övegsson, an expert at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, said the current eruption did not pose a threat to any infrastructure at the moment.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> The office indicated that a civil defense helicopter is scheduled to fly over the area in order to conduct an initial assessment of the size of the eruption, where specialized experts will closely assess the situation.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> This is the seventh eruption in the Reykjanes Peninsula since December, with the last eruption occurring in late August this year. The area is located near Reykjavik International Airport.
