Video: Watch the first footage of the wreckage of the Titan submarine after it was found at the bottom of the ocean

Arab Weather - The US Coast Guard shared the first photo of the wreckage of the submarine "Titan", which sank in the Atlantic Ocean after exploding in June 2023. They explained that the submarine is currently at the bottom of the ocean, while investigators began hearings to investigate this disaster.

The five people on board the submarine died during its final dive toward the Titanic wreckage, despite desperate searches at the time, and their deaths were confirmed several days after contact was lost, CNN reports.

In the newly released image, the submarine's broken tail cone is seen on the blue floor of the Atlantic Ocean, torn away from the rest of the hull, while other parts of the wreckage are seen nearby. The wreckage was found hundreds of metres from the Titanic wreck site, after days of intensive searching.

• Initial investigation results

The Naval Investigation Board reported that the wreckage was discovered by a remotely operated vehicle on June 22, 2023. Investigators determined that the submarine suffered a catastrophic internal collapse caused by the immense pressure in the deep ocean, causing the deaths of all on board.

Victims included Stockton Rush, founder and chairman of the submarine operating company; businessman Shehzad Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleiman; adventurer Hamish Harding and French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

The last message of the Titan submarine

At the hearing, the submarine's last message was revealed seconds before contact was lost, which read: "I dropped two weights," referring to their attempt to shed the weights in an attempt to surface.

The Naval Investigation Board’s hearings aim to uncover the circumstances surrounding the accident, including examining the technical qualifications of the crew and the submarine’s mechanical systems. Board Chairman Jason Neubauer said that if any criminal activity is discovered, recommendations will be made to the Department of Justice for appropriate action.
