Video: Making the covering of the Holy Kaaba
Weather of Arabia - The Kiswa of the Kaaba is a piece of cloth embroidered with verses from the Holy Qur’an , with a height of 14 meters that covers the Holy Kaaba .
The origin of the Kiswa goes back to our master Ismail , peace be upon him , followed by the King of Yemen , “Taba’”, who re-kissed it and recommended to his successors to preserve it and continue to clothe it after him. Until the Abbasids came and clothed the Kaaba with green clothes , then they changed it to another black one, and the black color of the kiswa has continued to this day.
In our time, a factory specialized in making the Kaaba Kiswa was established in 1977, and it manufactures a new Kiswa every year. The Kaaba Kiswa is replaced once a year, during the Hajj season. As for the old Kiswa, it is cut into several pieces that are usually sent to important Islamic personalities.
Currently, the kiswah is made of black silk and various phrases are engraved on it such as “God is majesty”, “There is no god but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God”, in addition to various surahs and verses such as Surat Al-Ikhlas. New on the ninth of Dhu al-Hijjah every year.
The manufacture of one quilting consumes 670 kg of silk, and the cost of one quilting is approximately 17 million Saudi riyals, including the wages of workers, employees and administrators, who number 240 people.
It is noteworthy that the wisdom behind the covering of the Holy Kaaba is to glorify the rituals of God Almighty and to thank God for the presence of the Holy Kaaba as a qiblah for Muslims.
