Videos and photos: When snow flooded the Syrian capital, Damascus, and its countryside heavily in 2010
Arabiaweather.com - On 12-12-2010, the capital, Damascus, witnessed heavy snowfall, the first snowfall in that season.
After a stormy and heavy rainy day, snow began to fall the next morning heavily in most areas of the capital, and the snow accumulated with good thicknesses, especially in the western and northern neighborhoods, in light of low temperatures.
All this was in the context of the region being affected by a deep depression in all layers of the atmosphere, associated with an air mass of polar origin. Its influence concentrated remarkably on the regions of Damascus and its countryside.
The reason for the snowfall at that time was the closure of many roads in the western countryside of Damascus, whose areas witnessed large and significant accumulations at altitudes of 700-800 meters above sea level and above, while the accumulation reached several meters on the tops of the mountains of Damascus countryside.
