Lake Tanganyika.. the great lake in Africa
Arabiaweather.com - Ismail Qasimi - Lake Tanganyika is one of the largest lakes in the world, the largest in Africa, and is likely to be the second largest lake in the world, and is also in second place among the deepest (after Russia's Lake Baikal ).
The lake is located on an area of 32,900 square kilometers and has a coastline of 1,828 kilometers. It extends longitudinally from north to south, and its length extends up to 676 kilometers, while its maximum width reaches 72 kilometers. Thus, it becomes the longest freshwater lake in the world.
Thanks to its vast area and longitudinal shape, Lake Tanganyika is divided between four countries, namely Tanzania in the eastern side and owns 46 percent of the lake, the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the western side with 41 percent and Burundi in the northeast, while Zambia is in the southwest side, all of which are wonderful countries to experience safari trips in Africa .
The Burundian city of Bujumbura is the only capital overlooking the lake, and there are other cities, the most famous of which are the Tanzanian Kigoma, the Congolese Kalemie, and the Zambian Mbulungo, which are the only cities that have ports for goods and travelers.
Kigoma is the only traveler-friendly town on the Tanzanian coast. Although small, it offers a great insight into the local life around pretty villages, and has some accommodation facilities.
