ArabiaWeather.com- The National Electric Power Company and the Jordan Wind Renewable Energy Project announced the start of commercial operation of the Tafila wind farm project, following the completion of the process of connecting the Tafila wind farm project to the public electricity grid.
The Tafila wind farm has reached its full production capacity, which amounts to 117 megawatts, within the specified and agreed upon dates, according to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Wind Project Company, Samer Judeh, who confirmed that the company, which is considered the first company to generate renewable energy from wind, begins commercial operation . In the Kingdom and the region, it will produce about 400 GWh annually.
The Tafila wind farm has completed all contractual and legal requirements, according to the agreed upon mechanisms and dates, and has actually started supplying the public grid with wind-generated energy on a commercial basis, according to the Director General of the National Electric Power Company, Eng. The project embodies the first step to find effective solutions to the energy problem in Jordan and to contribute to meeting its growing needs. The Tafila wind farm completed several trial operations for the project earlier.
The project consists of 38 huge turbines operating with a generating capacity of 3 megawatts for each turbine, and the total height of each of the turbines is about 150 meters, and the weights are approximately 200 tons.
The Tafila wind farm project is the first and largest of its kind in the region, and it is a clean source of energy that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 235,000 tons annually. Work began on its construction in 2014.
It is noteworthy that the Jordan Wind Project Company for Renewable Energy is a consortium that includes the InfraMed Investment Fund, the Emirati company Masdar, and the Cypriot EP Global Energy.
