Al-Suwaham Geological Survey | The Geological Survey reveals the causes of the earthquake that struck Al-Baha today
Arab Weather - Sinan Khalaf - The Geological Survey announced, in an urgent statement, the monitoring of an earthquake measuring 3.62 on the Richter scale, southwest of Al Baha, at 9:34 am this Wednesday.
The official spokesman for the authority, Tariq Abalkhail, stated that the stations of the national network at the Geological Hazards Center in the Geological Survey Authority detected this morning at 9:34 an earthquake measuring 3.62 on the Richter scale southwest of Al Baha.
He added that after the earthquake, a specialized team went to the site of the earthquake to inspect the area and collect data to find out the causes that caused this earthquake.
He stressed that earthquakes are a natural thing that occurs everywhere, without warning, and that their degrees and strength vary, and that what happened in the Al-Baha region is a natural earthquake.
Geological Survey spokesman Tariq Aba Al-Khail also attributed the cause of the earthquake that occurred today in Al-Baha to the effect of tensile forces in the middle of the Red Sea, which result in tectonic stresses that move to the earth's crust in the areas adjacent to the Red Sea. Which causes the reactivation of the shutters in the earth's crust.
In a supplementary statement today, Aba Al-Khail confirmed that it is normal for such tremors to occur and are felt by residents of residential areas due to their proximity and shallow depth.
He explained that he does not expect any losses due to its small seismic strength on the Richter scale; He confirmed that a team from the authority proceeded to the site immediately after the earthquake.
