<p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr">Arabia Weather - History witnesses numerous earthquakes that occurred on this day, January 14, the most important and prominent of which was the Kingston earthquake that occurred on January 14, 1907.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"></p><h3 style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> <u><strong>Kingston, Jamaica earthquake January 14, 1907</strong></u></h3><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> The 1907 earthquake struck the capital of the island of Jamaica, Kingston, with a magnitude of 6.2 on the earthquake magnitude scale on Monday, January 14, at 3:30 pm local time (20:36 UTC). According to the US Geological Survey, this earthquake has been described as one of the most violent earthquakes recorded in global history.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> The earthquake resulted in the destruction of all buildings in Kingston due to earthquakes and subsequent fires, which continued for three hours before inspection efforts began. It peaked in deaths of around 1,000 people, and caused material damage estimated at $30 million (equivalent to $833.25 million in 2020). A short time later, a tsunami was reported on the north coast of Jamaica, with the highest wave reaching a height of about 2 m (6–8 ft).</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"></p><h3 style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> <strong><u>China earthquake January 14, 2000</u></strong></h3><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> Another earthquake affected China in 2000, killing seven people, 2,528 were injured, and 92,479 were displaced.
