Important driving safety precautions before the summer holidays
ArabiaWeather - The German Traffic Safety Council (DVR) recommended that some important driving safety measures be taken before setting out on the summer holidays.
German experts explained that tire pressure should be increased in line with the large load of the car and the large number of passengers. For this purpose, the manufacturer's instructions should be observed, which mention the required values in the operating manual and on the door jamb or on the inside of the fuel tank cap.
The air pressure should always be 0.2 bar higher than the recommended value; Because a slightly higher pressure reduces rolling resistance and reduces fuel consumption.
And in the event of very high pressure, the contact surface decreases, which leads to faster tire wear on the one hand, and negatively affects the stability of the car in corners and comfort on the other hand.
And in the event of a lack of air in the tires, the shoulder erodes faster, and at the same time the braking path is lengthened.
For its part, the Technical Inspection Authority (GTÜ) recommended checking the spare wheel in the luggage compartment, as well as examining the general condition of the tire and ensuring that it is not damaged, and that it has sufficient tread depth, which should not be less than 3 mm to reduce the risk of the car slipping in the rain.
Tire age should be checked, as time plays a role in affecting the porosity and brittleness of a tire's rubber, even when not in use. So the tyre, which is 6 years old, had to be changed. If you do not have an intact spare wheel, it is necessary to check the compressor function and the life of the seal, which must be changed every 5 years.
