Developing a solar powered device to draw water from the air
ArabiaWeather site - In the near future, it may become a reality that all the water needed for your household needs is drawn from the air, even if you live in countries with a dry or desert climate, and that is the action and power of solar energy.
And this future is just around the corner, with the success of a team of American scientists at the University of Massachusetts, USA, in withdrawing a liter of water from the air per day, in countries where the humidity is less than 20%, which is the common level in arid regions.
Scientists developed a device they called a “water harvester” using organic metal frames produced by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, while researcher Omar Yaghi, who is one of the participants in developing the device, explained, “This device represents a major achievement in the challenge of extracting water from air and low humidity. There is no other way to do this at the moment, except by using additional power and electric dehumidifiers in the house, so that the water is produced at great costs.”
Research conducted on the developed device revealed that under conditions ranging from 20-30% of humidity, 2.8 liters of water can be withdrawn from the air within a period of 12 hours, at a total cost of no more than $2.2. The device was conducted on its effectiveness in extracting water from the air.
The scientists stressed the importance of this device in regions and countries that suffer from drought, to work with solar energy to provide the family's water needs at the lowest possible cost.
